The Peace Officer Training Academy provides specialized training for Law Enforcement Officers who require peace officer certification in their unique positions, including such examples as Police Constables, Corrections Officers, Animal Control Officers, Bailiffs, Court Officers, and Reserve Officers. Such officers are required to meet minimum training standards set forth by the New York Municipal Police Training Council.

The Peace Officer Training Academy will be conducting several "Basic Course for Peace Officer" and "Basic Course for Peace Officer with Firearms" programs. These are open to all New York State residents in Oswego and Onondaga counties. Registration is open now. The basic course is required for all Peace Officers, and highly recommended for Civilians, Security Officers, Military Personnel, and College Graduates that are seeking a career in Law Enforcement. The training is both physically and mentally challenging.
The Town of Schroeppel will be sponsoring and registering each participant with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Upon successful completion of the program, each graduate will receive a Law Enforcement Certificate from the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Municipal Police Training Council and Peace Officer certification.
The next basic course will begin early summer 2017, and is scheduled to be completed by late summer. Students must be registered and a fifty percent (50%) down payment received no later than two weeks prior to the first classroom session. Applicants must bring valid government-issued photo ID. The optional firearms portion of the basic course will begin immediately after conclusion of the basic course. The registration and tuition for the firearms will be discussed at basic orientation.
All classes, including the firearms training, will be held at the Town of Schroeppel Municipal Building, 69 County Road 57A, Phoenix, NY 13135 (located just north of Syracuse NY). Low cost housing and access to local restaurants is available.
About the Course: This is a part-time academy, scheduled to accommodate those students that are unable to attend a full-time academy. Classes are generally conducted on Thursday and Friday evenings from 18:00 to 22:00 hours, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 08:00 to 17:30 hours. Occasionally, class may be conducted on different days and/or times to accommodate instructors and students scheduling. Tuition is $1350.00 for the 99-hour basic course and $1850.00 for the 146-hour course with firearms training, with a 50% deposit required at registration and full payment due no later than orientation.
